“Dr. Brit Williams was such an amazing guest speaker this week for our class; it was so interesting to hear her methods of outreach for HIV/AIDS awareness. In our class, it is sometimes difficult to conceptualize how to destabilize and combat some of the misinformation on various topics when they have been so ingrained over decades. However, seeing Dr. Brit Williams describe her work and the team she has established is both motivating and empowering for advocating against misinformation. As I am looking to pursue a pre-med path and volunteered in a hospital during COVID, medical misinformation has always piqued my interest, so her talk was even more intriguing. I also liked how she was very knowledgeable on the topic yet was able to communicate in common terms, always with a clear progression of thought; Iassume this is what makes her such a great advocate against misinformation.Furthermore, I valued how she decided to cover misinformation coming from more liberal sources. Recently, most of the misinformation we have witnessed has been fairly right-wing points of view, although this source makes it clear that misinformation can infiltrate anyone, no matter their political views. Nobody is immune. I really enjoyed having Dr. Brit Williams speak to our class as an expert on HIV misinformation, and I look forward to all of our future speakers!”
